Privacy Policy

Our Commitment

Southbound was built with privacy as its foundation. We do not operate servers, databases, or cloud infrastructure of any kind. Your location data is stored on your iPhone and backed up through your personal iCloud account. We never receive, process, or have access to your information. This is by design.

Data Collection

Data stored on your device and iCloud:

• GPS coordinates collected through iOS significant location changes
• Timestamps of location readings
• Daily Florida/non-Florida status determinations
• Any manual overrides or notes you add
• Your residency target preference

Data we collect: None. We do not collect, transmit, store, or have access to any of your personal data or location history.

Location Services

Southbound uses iOS location services to determine whether you are in Florida. Specifically, the app uses:

• Significant location changes — iOS notifies the app when you move a meaningful distance (typically when crossing cell towers). This is battery-efficient and does not continuously track your GPS position.
• Region monitoring — A geofence around the state of Florida to detect entry and exit events.

The "Always" location permission is required for background detection to work. Without it, the app can only check your location while open. All location processing happens entirely on your device.

iCloud Backup

Southbound uses Apple's CloudKit to back up your residency data to your personal iCloud account. This allows your data to persist across device changes, restores, and replacements. Your iCloud data is encrypted by Apple in transit and at rest.

This backup goes directly from your device to Apple's iCloud infrastructure. Southbound does not operate any intermediate servers. We have no access to your iCloud data. The backup is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy and your iCloud account settings.

You can disable iCloud sync for Southbound in your iPhone's Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > Apps Using iCloud.

No Southbound Servers

Southbound does not operate servers, backend databases, or APIs. The only network activity is the iCloud sync managed entirely by Apple's CloudKit framework. We do not receive, process, or store any of your data at any point.

Data Sharing

We do not share your data with anyone because we do not have access to it. When you use the export feature, you control where that file goes (email, AirDrop, Files, etc.). We are not involved in that process.

Data Export

You can export your residency records as a CSV file at any time from the Settings screen. This export includes dates, Florida status, GPS coordinates, and accuracy data. The exported file is generated locally and shared using iOS's built-in share sheet. We never see or intercept this data.

Data Deletion

You can delete all recorded data at any time from Settings > Reset All Data. This removes data from your device. Data synced to iCloud can be managed through your iCloud account settings. Uninstalling the app removes all local data. Since we never receive your data, there is nothing on our end to delete.

Third-Party Services

Southbound does not integrate with any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services.

The app uses Apple's CloudKit for iCloud backup, which is governed by Apple's privacy practices. During the early access period, the app is distributed via Apple TestFlight. TestFlight may collect crash reports and usage statistics as part of Apple's testing infrastructure. Both are governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

Children's Privacy

Southbound is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children, and since we collect no data at all, this is inherently the case.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. Since we do not collect email addresses or contact information, we cannot notify you directly of changes.
